In October 2006, we became a host farm for Rare Breeds Canada with the arrival of Oshki Madjitawin (Ojibwa for "New Beginning), a 14 month old Lac La Croix Indian Pony filly. Three years later, in the fall of 2009 we were fortunate to be able to purchase Oshki and make her a permanent part of our equine herd. "Oshki" is a stunning grulla (grew-ya) colour exhibiting the frosted mane and tail, dorsal stripe, and tiger striping on her legs typical of black duns.

In the spring of 2010 Oshki was bred to Idanian (black LLCIP) to assist in the the preservation of this beautiful pony breed. In April 2011, Oshki presented us with a beautiful grulla LLCIP  filly named Anishaa (Ojibwa for Just for Fun). Oshki has been rebred to Shaman (black LLCIP) for a foal in May 2012.

With just over100 ponies now in existence, Rare Breeds Canada and the Lac La Croix Indian Pony Society are doing all they can to ensure this pony, which is designated as "critical", is saved from extinction.

The Lac La Croix Indian Pony  is a rare Canadian (Ontario) breed.  It is believed that the Lac La Croix Indian Pony evolved in the 19th century from "a considerable intermixture of blood of the smallest type Canadian horse, with the bronco or Spanish mustang of the south-western plains" (Henry William Herbert, Canadian Historical Review 1947).

Much like the Canadian Horse, the Lac La Croix Indian Pony is a hardy, versatile breed with strong cannon bones and small "iron-hard" hooves . The breed description has mares reaching a height of 12 to 13 h and stallions 13 to 14.2 h . The average height is generally 12.2 h to 13.2 h. No patterned colours such as appaloosa or pinto are permitted.
